Walking Regimen

49 years old.
Not terribly out of shape
300 plus lbs

I want to start training walks again

Lower back injuries.
Want to train with a small litre backpack with a little added weight to increase effort a bit.

Going to be using trainers, but may get light hiking boots.

Do you think i should leave off the pack at first to minimise damage? Or go in regardless.

I guess a lot depends on how heavy that backpack  may  be.   You dont  want  to have alot of extra weight on your back.  May sound crazy abit, but I use a 'Fanny pack"  Just has enough things that I need and its up front on my belt instead of hanging on my back..

When I was in New Mexico last fall, just carrying my camera around my neck was tough after walking long distances

  • True.
Wearing my big lens drags my neck down, painfully.
I was thinking 8 to 10 lbs to start.
About the weight of a gallon of water.
I have a. 70 oz camelback and,was thinking of getting the 100 oz size to start.

I figurebas i lose weight to increase the weight in proportion to add extra effort?

Just walking somedays are a challenge.
    Thank you Ron!
