The Faber test is a test that's used to help rule in or out a labral tear. Faber stands for flexion, abduction and external rotation of the hip, which describes the position the examiner will put you in.
You‘ll be lying on your back, your ankle will be on your knee in this figure four position.
The examiner will then provide a little downward pressure for your knee to help see how your range of motion is and see if this reproduces any of your hip pain.
If this causes hip pain, this may be suggestive of labral tear.
