Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) Definition

The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is a fibrous band of tissue that connects the bottom of the thigh bone (femur) with the top of the larger shinbone (tibia). The MCL is located on the inside of the knee joint, also known as the medial knee joint. The MCL helps stabilize the knee and is the most commonly injured knee ligament.
